Song as Poetry VII

We have been experiencing an alarming rate these days of deaths of friends and family. With the subject of these lyrics, Joey Feek was just beginning to achieve success with her husband, Rory Feek, when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She chose to have her baby, in spite of the cancer, which is another story. This post of “Poetry as Song,” is dedicated to those who have lost friends and family in the last few years. Rory Feek and Dolly Parton capture the paradox of traditional medicine, faith and death, perfectly.

Over the last several years I have lost a brother, my best friend, and the mother of my children to a variety of causes, cancer included. Many of which have given me pause to realize that life is short, and the most we can hope for is that we leave in peace, in tranquility, and with the love that we have have shared with those we have loved, as well as with those with whom we have shared a memorable moment with, no matter if it was a day, an hour or more. Cherish those moments, they may be gone tomorrow.

One Angel

The dominos kept falling in slow motion
Every doctor’s call and diagnostic test
I drove that hundred miles just to see you
The whole while cussing God and the devil in one breath
