This poem was written for a dear friend who recently lost her husband. When I was told of his passing, the poem started to form and came into being today.

When it is Time (for bc)
When it is time
there is little
we can say
that will remain
in the mind
or
in the heart.

What matters most
is the first kiss
the first date
the first overnight
the first of many things
to be
remembered
over the course
of a lifetime.

A lifetime
to experience
the wonder
of
our relationship
our children
our growth
our love
our passion.

When it is time
to say goodbye
we will do so
with grace
and a heart full
of all that we are
and will ever be
in the eyes of self
in the eyes
of you
in the eyes
of me.
